Vinyl LP pressing. 2012 album from the NY-based Noise Rockers. Worship is explosive, visceral, and dark. APTBS' DIY-braintrust of Death By Audio wizard Oliver Ackerman and bassist Dion Lunadon continue the evolution of songwriting that began with Onwards to the Wall, the band's 2011 EP. Now on Worship, they interweave threads of krautrock, dream-pop, and '80s Goth without ever losing the edge that is quintessentially Strangers. Unhinged dissonance is artfully framed within a fiercely dynamic and assured melodic sensibility. The album was written, recorded, mixed and mastered by a Place to Bury Strangers.

US LP pressing. Often when you're in your mid-20's heavy realities start to settle in. Relationships that seemed like they'd last forever lose their spark, your aspirations and self-perception shift, you marvel at friends your age getting married and having babies, and you feel powerless and small, realizing that people you've known and loved for a lifetime can suddenly die. It's a serious psychological shakeup, made even more difficult if your frontal cortex hasn't fully matured yet. It's a beast, a mountain, a wall, or as in Kubrick's 2001 a Space Odyssey, a mysterious obelisk that pushes you to evolve... like it or not. For better or worse, parts of US die, new parts come to life, and if we're lucky we emerge smarter, stronger, and more resilient. It's no surprise that for ages we've felt a deep sense of connection with music, art, and films inspired by this metamorphosis. Aisha Burns' Life in the Midwater provides a snapshot of the rough stuff, but with a delicate sensitivity and wisdom beyond her years. Burns' contributions as the violinist and occasional vocalist for the Austin band Balmorhea belie a nuanced songwriting prowess, and a dynamic and powerful voice. The album's title references a deep dark layer of the ocean that flows far below the surface, and just above what we call the deeps sea. Bioluminescent jellyfish often inhabit this layer of the ocean, emitting mysterious flashes of light despite the risk of exposing themselves to potential predators. Similarly Aisha's songs are dreamlike beacons in the inky abyss.

Amor de DĂas is the long-term collaboration between Alasdair MacLean (The Clientele) and Lupe Núñez-Fernández (Pipas). While their debut album Street of the Love of Days took three years to make, The House at Sea was recorded and mixed in only nine days. The fast pace of the sessions resulted in a rawer, more urgent album, featuring a rhythm section of James Hornsey and Howard Monk, both formerly of The Clientele. The House at Sea is a snapshot of a year's songs written in London and Madrid. There are pop songs, delirious dream accounts, strange lyrical puzzles, and stories from the city and the suburbs. The theme of the sea threads it's way throughout the record along with a gentle sense of drifting and departure, of being lost, of saudade-a sadness at lost things.

Amor de Dmas is the supergroup formed by Alasdair MacLean of the Clientele and Lupe Nzqez-Fernandez of Pipas. Over the course of three years, they quietly put together their debut record during evenings and weekends as they called in local friends (Louis Philippe) and visiting musicians (Damon and Naomi, Gary Olson) for sessions, building up the songs' multifaceted arrangements and vocal harmonies with harps, bouzoukis, strings, recorders, and brass over the core of dual Spanish guitars and the dream imagery of their bilingual lyrics.

Paste has said, 'It's easy to love British singer/songwriter Frank Turner. As if he weren't already pulling at our heartstrings with his creative lyrics, rowdy songs and his well-known affinity for beer. But Turner's live performances take those qualities to a new level.'

Imposing and muscular yet marked by frenetic finesse, Syndrome Syndrome is born from a dyslexic dialogue between man and machine.

Archers of Loaf almost called it quits after All the Nations Airports due to the strain of touring and the rut of the album cycle (i.e., make record, make video, do interviews, tour, tour, tour; repeat) but decided they would make one more album and see how they felt after that process. They again enlisted the help of Brian Paulson to record the album that became White Trash Heroes. On this album the band added keyboards to several songs as well as vocoder, and debuted the lead vocals of Matt Gentling on the track "I.N.S." "Banging on a Dead Drum" found all the members swapping instruments and some of the worst cowbell ever attempted. The band pulled out all the stops to keep it's members engaged, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough and the band decided to make the fall tour of 1998 it's final outing.

Limited 180 gram vinyl LP pressing. 2014 album from the Indie singer/songwriter and her band. Born in Seattle and based in Nashville, Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden play lush, layered Indie Rock with sparkling melodies and shimmering soundscapes. In 2013, the band launched a highly successful crowd funding campaign via Kickstarter for their collaborative film and music venture, THE SHAPE, THE COLOR, THE FEEL. KT SOS began by writing and recording seven songs, produced by Konrad Snyder (Kopecky Family Band) at the Brown Owl in Berry Hill, and three more with Eric Masse and Jordan Lehning (Caitlin Rose) at the Casino in East Nashville. They then handed the tracks over to a dynamic spectrum of artists, handpicked by the band, including ten filmmakers who were asked to give each song it's own unique visual form. Tucker and filmmaker Miriam Bennett are working on a documentary featuring the creative community that has emerged throughout the project. For Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden, THE SHAPE THE COLOR THE FEEL is a sort of homecoming, but it's also a leap into the great unknown.

With All the Nations Airports, originally released in 1996, Archers of Loaf were uncompromising in their efforts to push themselves in new directions. They delivered an album that included some of the more simple indie pop songs that had made them famous as well as four instrumental tracks, layered tape loops and even a solo piano song, but the song structures became much more complex. These songs provided a wide range of color and emotion but somehow none of the songs seemed out of place on the album. Album artwork re-imagined by Ian Dingman.

With a voice that is marvelously unique and bold, and songs that are both classically poetic and rooted deep in her own experience, Kendl draws upon an old-time Americana and bluegrass bent that brings to mind the haunting vocal work of Karen Dalton and Gillian Welch.

C'MON is the shortest title of any Low album, which seems fitting, as it also ranks among the most succinct and straightforward releases. Recorded in a former Catholic church, Sacred Heart Studio, the band took full advantage of the room's high, vaulted ceilings, natural reverb, and affinity for organ sounds and group singing. Whereas 2007's DRUMS AND GUNS railed against the war in Iraq, C'MON feels like a plea for humanity, decency and common sense in a world gone mad. Without curtailing their artistry one iota, the trio has made one of it's most accessible, affecting albums to date.
